You just have a headache. This feeling of disconnect was the only thing that stopped me from being utterly infatuated with the novel. I wanted other people to have a good sense of the duology as a whole if they had heard similar things about the sequel. Immediately malida, several planes are reported to adaptatkon crashed because of mass bird strikes. Not only did they have to constantly look behind their backs, they slowly discovered extraordinary things about their bodies.

Things become even stranger when Reese returns home.

She wakes up in a strange place, with very little questions being answered. Reese’s best friend, Julian, also discusses his intersecting identities, about not being Black enough for some and not Jewish enough for others, and how being gay also exacerbates the issue.

Considering there was a bigger mystery in what happened to Reese and David after their car accident, it’s unfortunate that it couldn’t sustain my initial hunger. I went into this book fully expecting this to be a pining, friends-to-lovers story, with a murder mystery twist.

Horribly hurt, Reese and David are taken to a military hospital in the area where they undergo treatment to keep them alive. mwlinda

She feels rather lost in the Academy as she works through her last year, knowing that her father will marry her off for political gain one way or another, and that she is running out of time. The writing of the book is probably my biggest point of contention here: By using this site, you agree to the Terms malijda Use and Privacy Policy. Teenagers have so much shoved onto their plates during their high school years.

It’s all very intriguing and I liked how those elements were tied in, I just ffee again wish that the characters had a bit more to them so I could have latched on to their desperation. Thank you Malinda Lo! Sep 07, Jenni Arndt rated it it was ok Shelves: See all 3 questions about Adaptation…. We didn’t really find out too much about their past or their feelings so there wasn’t enough for me to latch on to and make me actually care about them.

No sex, one almost-sex scene that is aborted Rep: Her influence is woven into the plot. That she’s attracted to anyone after that big David rejection! Nov 05, Rachel Brown rated it really adaptatiln it.

Ellen Kushner wrote the Riverside series, beginning with Swordspoint! As a quest story, it would have been good to see where the characters were going, along with what was happening inside their heads. On a final note, the fun factor of this book was through the roof.

But can she trust Amber?

Birds have caused four planes all over the country to crash for some mysterious reason. I normally enjoy romantic arcs in a book but in Adaptation’s case, it was simply a distraction. It can feel like we have no history, which is alienating.

Reece seems more affected by their ordeal than David, she had headaches and a strange ability to feel the emotions of others. The mystery it promises reeled me in and I began with the intention of reading a few pages but about two and a half hours later, turned the last page.

What I got from Reese’s relationships and attraction is that gender does not have to be a factor in determining who you’re adxptation to, not a main factor.

Danika reviews Adaptation by Malinda Lo

The ending oh god, that ending feels right—though I dare not spoil it, and people may disagree with me. The story draws in readers at the first page, and the tension slowly increases until an explosive and unimaginable climax.
