It was nice to physically see him but his talks were simply parts of his books cut and pasted together. Upon his graduation from the seminary inManning was ordained a Franciscan priest. In this book, the author communicates the regrets he is experiencing–now at the end of his life–due to poor choices, alcoholism, and the human condition. I am going blank on the mind disorder that he currently has, but it is a result of years of alcohol abuse and dependence.

I’d read The Ragamuffin Gospel l umpteen times and my copy rragamuffin Abba’s Child was a dog-eared shamble, so I was thrilled. In time, Brennan goes off to college, and xll abruptly joins the Marines, and then abruptly becomes a Franciscan priest, and then abruptly joins the Little Brothers of Jesus in Europe, and then abruptly starts a new community in Mobile Alabama, and then abruptly … You get the picture.

Want to Read Currently Reading Read. I have several friends I greatly respect who have long adored Manning. It isn’t the most complete account of his life, but it’s written with the heart and soul that Manning brings to all of his works.
The psychological community interested in spirituality have described this in terms of God image. It makes me love him all the more that he revealed these things about himself.

This book was a little disturbing to me because it made me look at my own life and take stock A brutally honest and somewhat disturbing account of the life of Brennan Manning.
Their story is touching and tragic.
I know exactly what he is talking about. Refresh and try again. It works without asking anything of us. What struck me most about this memoir was realizing that Brennan was in and ragamuftin of his addiction to alcohol all of his life. A grace that pays the eager beaver who works all day long the same wage as the grinning drunk ragmauffin shows up at ten till five. He does not write as a man whose life is altogether, he does not write from a tower of self-confidence.
