Writing the Breakout Novel is clearly a book that every aspiring writer should consider reading. This book worked for me because it coalesced a year’s worth of reading, writing, taking apart books, and workshop There are obvious reasons why adding this title is embarrassing.
And I can’t argue with his main point: Then I read this book, and it changed everything for me. What Writing the Breakout Novel has is both a readers and an agents eye view of necessary elements in writing to entertain your readers and keep their interest. His tone and attitude throughout the book made me cringe numerous times.
Don Maass understands story in a way brezkout people, even few professionals, do. I believe it gives you a lot to at least think about on how to improve your story and any good writer wants to be able to improve their writing. Maas’ title is corny. I’m not sure that my writing will ever reach the level of respectability that he holds out for, but I think I can easily see where I need to improve and that’s what counts as to how this book works as a tool.
