This was a fantastic book. Loved learning about how herbs and foods and medicines were used and prepared, and was surprised and excited by the expertise shown. I love these books and have read some in the Earth’s Children series many times because I love the detailed descriptions of their way of life. Not even 10 stars is enough for this book. Hearing that song would remind me that I needed to read the book.

The long descriptions never come across as dry or boring, but instead leave me with more questions. She is almost a different species than them. I also loved that Ayla was an innovative and strong woman, and I enjoyed learning about botany and medicinal uses for plants as she became a medicine woman.
